What is my role, as a citizen and as a student regarding climate action? How can I contribute? How can my school/my institution become more climate friendly? And what is the role of education?

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Climate change is having a big impact everywhere throughout the world. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives. It is evident that the weather patterns are changing, and extreme weather events are increasingly more common.
Protecting the planet is urgent to save lives and livelihoods, immediate action must be taken to address this climate emergency.
Education can be the key to bring awareness of the need for everyone to contribute and take action. All of us can have an impact. To make it possible, it’s determinant to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Working questions:
- How do the students feel this subject impacts them personally?
- What is their contribution as a citizen and as a student to climate action?
- Can their contribution be improved?
- Why is their contribution, and the contribution of every citizen important?
- How did the school contribute to their awareness regarding this subject?
- What is the school currently doing to contribute to the climate action problem? What could be improved?
- Can education have a meaningful impact on common climate action?
- What’s the situation and what could be improved (in terms of education)?
SHARED CLASSROOM
The activities can be divided in different shared session.
Sessions
Module 1. Short introduction to the project, the participants and the work plan
- Shared classroom (30’ to 1h)
Module 2. Introduction to UN and SDG’s
- Individual classroom (30’ to 1h)
Module 3. Introduction to target SDG’s and the climate change problematic
- Individual classroom on climate change (1h)
- Shared classroom on climate change policies (30’ to 1h)
Module 4. My school and climate action
- Individual classroom on investigation of own school approach (4 to 5h)
- Shared classroom on results of research (1h)
Module 5. The role of education
- Individual and/or shared classroom on reflection and discussion on the role of education (1 to 2h)
Module 6. Citizens role
- Individual and/or shared classroom on reflection, discussion and personal action plan regarding climate action
Final evaluation and conclusion – shared classroom (30’ to 1h)
The class can be divided in mixed working groups from both countries or only from their own.

Shared Classroom 4 to 6
Individual Classroom 4 to 5
Technology needed:
- Internet connection
- A device to connect, a pc, cellphones or tablet
- Each participant has his/her own device and headphones if possible
LEARNING OUTCOMES
During the project, the students can develop different kind of products:
- videos,
- PowerPoint presentations
- photo and post-it walls
- summary document with recommendations for action at school
